What is below are my observations and some opinion based on my expectations of how everything should work, without knowing the limits of the Mackie control protocol itself, the Qcon Pro X or Mixbus 32C. I’m relatively new to the whole Mackie control thing. The Qcon Pro X is in “Logic Pro” mode and using the Logic Pro button overlay. I’m using Mixbus 32C 3.7, the Qcon Pro X has firmware version 1.08. But before I boxed it back up., I spent some time to see how compatible this control surface is with Mixbus 32C. Unfortunately it arrived with some cosmetic damge that I could not live with, so I returned it and a new one will be here soon. ![]() I ordered an “open-box, supposedly like new” unit. With its good looks, meter bridge, dual displays and rugged controls, it seemed like it could be the best bang for the buck once you step beyond Behringer X-Touch territory. And I could only find one reference on the MB forum of somebody who was considering it but no confirmed mixbus users using this control surface. While shopping for a control surface, there was not a lot of info for the Qcon Pro X mainly (I think) because it is a relatively new model. (trying to remember not to use it for now.) Also, more often than not, the "Undo" button caused MB to crash although sometimes it actually does undo. I do not know if this is a PC problem or Icon's USB3 implementaiton. Updated : After spending some time with this unit I've discovered that while this control surface supports USB3, I've found plugging into a USB 2.0 port to be much more stable with my particular PC. For the time being it seems that Logic Pro mode on the Pro X and Qcon mode in MB are still the best combination. Other DAW modes on the Pro X will go to +6dB but with limited functionality in other areas when used with MB. ![]() This seems to have something to do with the Logic Pro implementation on the Pro X. If a fader in MB is moved with the mouse (or another control surface) beyond +3.6, the fader for that channel on the Pro X will move to -inf and then come up slightly as the fader on screen is moved with the mouse towards +6dB. Updated In "Logic Pro" mode, the Pro X faders will only go to +3.6dB. The details of how to set everything up can be found in this post. Updated I've found that with a little work, "Studio One" mode on the Qcon Pro X can offer better functionality inside of Mixbus (and the faders have their full range!). ![]()

The deck spends its life total to fuel powerful spells like Necropotence and Snuff Out, then leverages their low life total for win conditions like Repay in Kind or Near-Death Experience. I think there's two directions we can go with her, though there's overlap between the two strategies:Ī Lifeloss deck is a rather obscure archetype that focuses on lowering their own life total for value. Regardless of which commander you like more, I think the other should slot easily into the 99.Īlright, now that we know what Liesa does, let's start brewing around her. ![]() I think both have their own unique strengths and weaknesses and while there's a lot of overlap between them, I do think the decks built around them will look significantly different. I like both Kambal and Liesa as commanders and I don't think either one is better than the other. Plus his ability only triggers on noncreature spells, so he's far less effective against Creature-heavy decks. However, he's also worse in some ways, requiring you to pay the command tax with mana so he costs as much as Liesa the second time you cast him and more any subsequent times. In some regards he's better at it than Liesa, costing less mana to cast at least the first time, only affecting opponents, and also gaining you life. Like Liesa, Kambal is an Orzhov legendary creature that can be your commander and has a drain ability that triggers off spells and is inevitably the commander that Liesa will be most often compared to, so let's compare them. But the best comparison to what Liesa is doing is probably Kambal, Consul of Allocation. Painful Quandary is another but it only affects opponents. In terms of popular cards that see play and are similar to Liesa's ability, Ruric Thar, the Unbowed is fairly similar, dishing way more damage but only triggers on noncreature spells. This is what I'd call a Group Slug ability, where the goal is to hurt the entire table quickly. It's not uncommon for people to cast two or more spells per turn as the game progresses, and with Liesa making everyone lose 2 life each time they cast a spell this ability adds up quickly. This ability is incredibly powerful, quickly dropping everyone's life total as the game goes on. The second unique ability is whenever a player casts a spell, they lose 2 life. There closest comparison I could find to this ability is Netherborn Altar, which also lets you avoid paying the mana cost of the command tax by paying life instead but it's definitely not as good unless you have ways to remove the soul counters off it. So basically instead of paying the command tax with mana you pay it with life, which is a huge upgrade since mana is a significant bottleneck to casting all the spells you want each turn and paying life is not just way easier to do in this deck but can actually be an advantage, as I'll cover later on. She also has two unique and powerful abilities: the first is rather than pay 2 for each previous time you've cast this spell from the command zone this game, pay 2 life that many times. Liesa, Shroud of Dusk is a 5/5 legendary angel that costs 2WWB and has flying and lifelink. So yeah, Vorthos players rejoice! There's dozens of us! The easiest method to ditch a card is to run out of a suit-if that suit is lead, you can burn off an undesirable card with no risk that you will end up capturing it. Play of the handĪ good portion of a winning Hearts strategy involves discovering the most opportune times to ditch cards you don’t want to get stuck with. The J♦ is seldom won by the player holding him, since three other cards can be played to collect him. If you are playing the Jack of Diamonds variant, consider passing the J♦ if there is nothing more pressing to pass. In particular, if the player holding the Q♠ has already played to a trick, you know there is no way she can be played to the trick. Since most of the time, you will be passing on higher, undesirable cards, knowing who holds them can be useful. You don’t want to be forced to lead that suit over and over again because of a lack of anything else to lead with. If you have a lot of cards of a particular suit, you might consider passing some of them on-if you’re running long, at least one of the other players is guaranteed to be running short, so they will be using tricks of that suit to unload their undesirable cards. High hearts are almost always a good option to pass, unless the spades situation is more pressing. You do not want to be forced into playing one of these cards early in a trick and have the Q♠ come out after you. The two spades higher than the Q♠, the K♠ and A♠, should be treated with nearly as much care as the Q♠. If you are considering holding the Q♠, make sure you have some other spades to play when some other player leads with spades-otherwise you may be trapped with only the Q♠ as a valid play. A good time to hold the queen is when you only have a few cards in some other suit-when you run out of that suit, you can play the Q♠, and you will be immune to capturing her because you did not follow suit. This is not always the best play sometimes, it’s easier to avoid capturing the Q♠ when you can control when she comes out. The gut reaction of most players is to pass the Q♠ when she has been dealt to them. Not so in Hearts-you have the opportunity to shape your hand somewhat by choosing to pass cards to the next player.
